As with any decent eCommerce solution, there are costs to pay, but Shopify fees are well-rounded and more cost-effective than many other options out there. Shopify is very popular because it’s easy to set up and maintain as it’s a fully hosted SaaS (software as a service) platform, and the pricing is transparent.
This means your store can be launched as soon as you register and choose from the available Shopify Plans.
o make the decision that’s best for you, here’s an overview of each plan and the additional Shopify fees you can expect.
Basic Shopify Fees for Each Pricing Plan
Shopify offers five distinct pricing plans to merchants:
1. Shopify Lite
At $9 a month, it’s best for those who want to sell directly from their social media pages (Facebook, Squarespace, Tumblr) or WordPress. But, it can also be used for in-person selling via the Shopify POS app.
2. Basic Shopify
With a price of $29 a month, this plan is best for those who need a fully functional store. With this, you get 2 staff accounts and are able to list an unlimited number of products. This plan includes fraud analysis, abandoned cart recovery and a discount code engine too.
3. Shopify
This plan costs $79 a month and comes with everything the Basic plan has to offer. But it also adds POS functionality, and in-depth reporting on sales, marketing, and customer stats. This plan also has lower Shopify fees for transactions and credit cards when compared to Shopify Lite and Basic, and is best suited for those who plan to use POS and have a larger number of sales. We’ll discuss this more below.
4. Advanced Shopify
For $299 a month, this plan comes with all the features of the other plans, plus two additional things: advanced report builder and real-time carrier shipping. This plan is best suited for merchants with a large number of sales who use carriers to ship products.
5. Shopify Plus
For Enterprises only, Shopify Plus has flexible pricing depending on a business’s needs, but these are a minimum of $2,000 a month and up. It’s best suited for established businesses with very large budgets who want a tailored solution.
These are the basic monthly subscription prices, but additional Shopify transaction fees apply to each plan, based on how much you sell, payment providers you use, and types of payments you have.
A Look At Additional Shopify Fees
Most merchants might not be aware that there are additional Shopify merchant fees that are charged on top of the basic monthly fee for each plan, split into two types:
- The Shopify transaction fee Charged by Shopify is based on the payment gateway provider you are using (PayPal, Shopify Payments, Stripe, etc.)
- The credit card fee is Charged by the payment gateway provider for each transaction. Note that the credit card fee changes based on your country.
How much these fees will ultimately cost you is based on:
- Different Shopify Plans
- The number of transactions
- Type of transaction
- Online credit card transaction
- In-person credit card transaction
- Manual payments (bank deposit, cash on delivery, test/draft order)
- POS orders
- Payment gateway provider you are using

Shopify Plus Pricing Breakdown
* As Shopify Plus pricing is negotiable and not listed on Shopify, these prices are based on existing agreements from eligible merchants. Credit card fees are excluded as there was not enough information available.
- Monthly Fee:
- $2,000 $40,000
- Shopify Transaction Fee:
- 0% for Shopify Payments
- 0.15% for every other payment provider (PayPal, Skrill, Amazon Payments, etc.)
Shopify Basic may seem like the best option because it’s the cheapest per month, but if you are using external payment gateways like PayPal, the 2% transaction fee can add up if you have larger transaction volumes.
In this case, it might be more feasible to take the Shopify Plan and only pay 1% for each transaction. When choosing the right Shopify Plans for you, it’s best to calculate all additional fees to see which one works best for you.
